Your Cooperative

Balance...balancing your need for energy with a bright future.

In the Beginning.....Investor-owned utilities could not be persuaded to bring electricity to the sparsely populated west side of Atlanta; they could see no profits for their stockholders. It was up to the people residing in the area to make it happen, and on a sweltering day in August, 1936, a group of determined local people met in Douglasville, formed the Farmers Electrical Association, applied for a Rural Electrification Administration loan, and set out to build 83 miles of power lines. The rest is history. Today, after two name changes, the first to Douglas County Electric Membership Corporation and the second to GreyStone Power Corporation, the system serves over 5,400 miles of line and more than 102,000 meters.

GreyStone Power Corporation is a member-owned electric cooperative dedicated to providing our members with the best electric service at the lowest possible rates. Because GreyStone is locally owned and operated, members/consumers receive responsive and focused service seven days a week. In addition, GreyStone Power Corporation employs 280 persons in varying positions including member services representative, cashier, lineman, apprentice lineman, mapping/autocad, service technician, accountant, human resources assistant, key accounts specialist, and many more.

The Future...GreyStone Power along with 7 other EMCs in Georgia run a not-for-profit corporation -- Green Power EMC an idea conceived in 2001 and operational by 2003. The mission of Green Power EMC is to find electricity produced from cleaner, greener Georgia sources and add it to our power supply mix. Since Green Power EMC was founded we've generated more than 132 million kilowatt hours of electricty from landfill gas, water and the sun, and in 2009 we plan to generate electricity from poultry litter and wood waste facilities.

The future's possibilities are endless!
